This 8-day trek with ascent of the M’Goun allows you to discover one of the wildest regions of the High Atlas. At 4068 metres, M’Goun is the third highest peak in Morocco. It’s a relatively easy climb, allowing mountain lovers to “do” a peak of over 4,000 meters. The rugged flanks of the massif irrigate a vast area of plateaus and valleys where very isolated Berber villages continue to lead a traditional rural life, in harmony with the environment.

Arrival at Marrakech airport, welcome and transfer to your hotel.
Night in Marrakech.
Dinner on your own.
Breakfast at the hotel, departure from Marrakech by minibus, heading for the Central Atlas via Azilal. Picnic on the way, arriving in the fertile Aït Bougmez valley in the early afternoon. Meeting with the muleteers after the village of Agouti at 1800m altitude, start of the hike to the Arous sheepfolds.
4h30 drive and 3 hours walking – altitude difference + 400.
Overnight bivouac at 2200m.
Following the mule track, climb to the Djebel Tarkerdit pass at 3300m. Impressive view of the M’goun range. Descent to the Tarkerdit plateau, nomadic territory on high plateaus isolated from all civilizations.
5-hour walk – altitude difference + 1100/-400m.
Overnight in a bivouac near the refuge at 2890m altitude.
Morning ascent of Mont M’Goun, culminating at 4,068 m, via the western route. At the summit, 360° panoramic views. Descent through scree to Assif Oulilimt: exceptional high-mountain scenery. Set up camp at the entrance to the gorge.
Optional stage: for those who don’t wish to make the ascent, there’s the option of following the mule track, for 3h30 of “gentle” walking.
8-hour walk – altitude difference + 1180/-1400m.
Overnight bivouac at 2650m altitude.
Quiet stage on the north face of the M’Goun range. Hike through the fairy chimneys, a beautiful site for geology enthusiasts. We set up camp near the springs at Aïn Aflafal (2300m) altitude.
4-hour walk – Cumulative altitude difference + 200 /-350m
The transhumance trail takes you up to the Tizi N’ait Imi pass at 2905 m altitude. This natural barrier separates the pristine M’goun valley from the fertile Aït Bougmez valley. Continue down to Bougmez along a winding path to the village of Aït Imi. Cross the gardens to reach the cottage where you spend the night. At 1850m.
6-hour walk – altitude difference +600 /-1050m.
Dinner and overnight in cottage.
A short walk in the morning with a visit to the Sidi Moussa granary. We return to our minibuses, and take the road back to Marrakech. In Azilal, lunch in a small local restaurant.
Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, check into hotel. Dinner and free visit of the medina.
1h30 walk and 4h30 drive – Difference in altitude + 100 /-100m.

Breakfast at your hotel and transfer to the airport.
