The rich history of this country gives legendary status to some of its cities. Indeed, Morrocan conurbations like Chefchaouen, Essaouira, Volubilis and even the capital Rabat carry with them all the vestiges of a history and heritage that is exceptional; and so what should you expect if you embark on a voyage of discovery to these fabled destinations?

…Between Myth and History

Today, the Moroccan cities that once welcomed ancient civilisations still carry traces of those historic eras, which is especially the case with Tangiers in the north of the country. This coastal town, famous for its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar, also stands out for its number of historic monuments – take your pick of magnificent Roman amphitheatres, Phoenician tombs or the caves of Hercules. Meanwhile, the less well-known city of Volubilis displays just as many medieval treasures, and just as much heritage, along the banks of the wadi Rhoumane, not far from Meknès. Impressive monuments such as the Arch of Carcalla, or more Roman temples, bear witness to the town’s ancient past.

…Between Heritage and Inheritance

It’s not just the riches of the cities in Morocco that contribute to the exceptional history of this country, because it’s also blessed with natural treasures, from the Rif mountain chain to the Atlantic coast. The city of Chefchaouen, in the north-west, will give you the thrill of experiencing its waterfalls, not far from the mosque of Cherafat, and also the forest of Talazzemtane and the grotto at Toughoubite. The town of Essaouira isn’t to be left out here, possessing as it does all the ancient charms of the Moroccan ports. Lastly, imperial Meknès offers traditions of both historic and natural importance to its visitors. The town of a hundred minarets is a must-see as much for its mosques as for the possible excursions you can make outside its walls – an ideal point of departure to discover all of Morocco’s celebrated settlements!
