Seaside cities

The Atlantic coast is a great setting for a Moroccan beach holiday, but it also allows you to get off the beaten track for a while. At the gates of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert, the shore invites travellers to escape for a few days or longer! The whole region boasts heavenly natural spaces and an exceptionally mild climate all year long.

All along the coast the magic of little fishing villages is inescapable and everything is calm and serenity. You can also discover the large coastal cities Rabat and Casablanca. For centuries they have been standing guard over their precious Roman, Marinid, Andalusian, and Portuguese heritages. They also make for great base camps for excursions!

When travelling to the Moroccan coast, seafarers will head for El Jadida and Safi . The region draws professional and amateur surfers every year. Halfway between the two cities you’ll find the Oualidia lagoon . Surprisingly looked over by the seaside tourism industry, this site is a marvellous place for relaxation. At the doorstep of the thousand Kasbahs, admire the plains of the oued Oum el Rbia and its eucalyptus forest.

Halfway between Safi and Agadir, a visit to Essaouira, the legendary former Mogador, is a must! In the south east, don’t miss out on the Route du Miel “the honey road” and the Vallée du Paradis (paradise valley)…From the coast, this sinuous road passing through sparse hills and verdant oases will lead you to the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. From here, you can admire the splendid landscapes of the Valley buried in pink oleanders. Nearby, the treasures of the Souss Massa national park wait to be discovered. This stunning natural site houses an incredible diversity of natural sites: arid steppe all the way to the Souss Massa estuary where the landscape metamorphoses into dunes, coastal cliffs and lagoons.

On the coast on the edge of the Western Sahara, is the Dahkla peninsula , a haven of peace between lagoon and ocean. Go exploring on the Herne Island, or on the road to Mauritania: beautiful wild experiences await hikers…
